BUNKERS UPDATE

Posted on: 9 February

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THE FOLLOWING APPLIES:

Bunkers out of play

When bunkers are out of play, there is nothing preventing a player from electing to play from the bunker rather than taking relief outside. The term ‘out of play’ for bunkers is shorthand for ‘GUR in the General Area’ which gives the player both options – play it from the bunker or take relief outside the bunker, since we have not stated that play is prohibited from the bunkers.

When relief is taken the ball must be played from within one club-length of the nearest point of complete relief. Sometimes this point will be to the side of the bunker, but on many occasions the point will be behind the bunker. As in all similar relief situations, it not the “nicest” point but the “nearest” point.

Bunkers in play

Given the current prolonged wet weather, for bunkers that are in play, until further notice the Covid Local Rule for bunkers will apply. Therefore a player may take a preferred lie in a bunker within 30cm of where the ball lies, no nearer the hole. Note: when applying this local rule, the ball must be played from the bunker.

Rakes will not placed in bunkers while this local rule is in place. It would greatly assist other players if you could smooth any disturbed area as far as possible with a club or your shoe. The course staff will periodically rake the bunkers.

Frank Gal
