Old Duffers

Come and Join Us, the Old Duffers Golf group, whose ages range between 60 to 80 plus, was established in 1980 by the then President and Captain of the Richmond Golf Club Jack Smith and Jack Greentree. All participants are active paying members of the Richmond Golf Club however visitors are always welcome.

The Old Duffers play every Thursday morning weather permitting. We assemble in the top car park moving to the ladies tenth tee between 7.00 and 7.30am. Players are allocated a handicap – initially half their current ‘golflink’ handicap and the cost to participate is $5.00. Visitors are required to pay green fees at the pro shop. Play is from the public tees and 30cm preferred lies through the green operate for all competitions throughout the year.

The first Thursday of every month is a stroke event, all other events are stableford. Three annual competitions are conducted held over two successive Thursdays being aggregate stableford. They are the Jeff Holman Trophy held in March, Smith Greentree Trophy held in August and our Christmas Ham and Turkey competition held in December.

Our morning event concludes at the clubhouse between 9.00 and 10.00am where winner and runners up are announced. The $5.00 collected from each participant is pooled and returned to the winner and runners up that day meaning half the field get more than their money back. These winnings will be via the loyalty program when that returns to the club. It is also a time for refreshment and a chat.
