Vets go head to head

WILL ONE OF THESE TWO MEN GET OVER THE LINE IN 2016?

Previous winners Col Kenning (left) and Greg Kent (right) have won the NSW Veterans State Strokeplay Championship between them for the last 6 years.

Col, from Kiama, who plays of a handicap of 4, is last year’s winner and at 67 years of age faces an enormous challenge from a dozen lower handicap younger golfers keen to wrest the title from him.

Col Kenning (l) and Greg Kent up for the challenge of this year’s championship.

Greg, from Charlestown, who plays off a handicap 5, was the winner in 2013 and 2014 and at 63 years of age faces the same challenge as Col.

Col’s fabulous performance in 2015 was built on three brilliant rounds of 71, 72 and 74 for a scratch total of 217 and a 3 stroke victory.

With the field of 150 golfers including 16 players off handicaps 0 to 4, Col and Greg will have to rely on their experience to claim the title.

Can one of these veterans do it one more time?

We’ll know the answer soon!

The State Championships are held 21-23 March at Richmond, Penrith and Stonecutters Ridge golf courses.
