Veteran's Celebrate at Richmond!

Image Budding golfers coming through the ranks at the Richmond Golf Club need look no further than their own backyard for inspiration and the will to win.

The low shooting stars took a back seat through the latter stages of 2009 as the veterans stepped up and claimed centre stage by winning the inaugural Western Sydney Region Veteran Golfers Association Interclub Challenge Trophy.

Played as a mixed handicap stableford competition where the top four scorers from each club at each event had their scores tallied after the final tournament, Richmond scored 574 points to prevail in a remarkable result by a solitary point over Windsor Country Club.

This tournament, the first of the new WSRVGA, which was formed in September with and objective to provide good quality competition for veteran golfers in a friendly and social atmosphere.

Richmond and Windsor were joined in the opening series by Ashlar, Wallacia and Springwood.

The series received strong support, with between 100 and 150 entries for each event, providing an excellent base for the future growth of both the Association, which also land a lucrative sponsorship deal from Winford Motors McGraths Hill, and the Interclub Challenge.

The WSRVGA plans to hold at least five major tournaments this year, as well as a pennant competition, an outstanding player award and a perpetual champion club trophy.

Individual veteran golfers or veteran group representatives wishing to find out more or who may be interested in discussing membership can contact Association President, Garry Johnston on 9639 0189.

Richmond Veterans play each Monday.

Amended Local Rule: Distance Measuring Device

For all players of this course, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (eg. Gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.
